FEBRUARY 2021 Monthly Meeting

February 14, 2021 By Howick Leave a Comment

NEXT MEETING: WEDNESDAY 24 FEBRUARY 2021
FENCIBLE LOUNGE, UXBRIDGE RD, HOWICK (NEXT TO THE HOWICK LIBRARY).

President’s Letter

Happy New Year Members,

Unfortunately I am sending out this newsletter from another lockdown. I was hoping to start off with ‘hopefully things will be more settled this year’. Oh well, that is still my hope, and I look forward to enjoying a year of sharing our mutual love of art. Whatever happens, the committee will work hard to adapt and bring you an engaging and substantial art programme. We will be sure to keep you updated if there are any changes to our club nights or gallery operation.

As per tradition, we will be kick starting the year with a critique for our first club night, hosted by Peter Hall. Please bring along a recent artwork and receive some informative feedback.

There are quite a high number of members who have not yet paid their subs, so just a gentle reminder to please pay these please as soon as possible. Many thanks. You can do this at the Cottage or by direct credit.

Take care and I look forward to seeing you all at club night.

Elise De Silva

Solo Room for FEBRUARY 2021

February 2, 2021 By Howick2 Leave a Comment

Artist: Elise de Silva

Elise is the current President of the Howick Art Group. She is also a member of the Auckland Watercolour Society and the New Zealand Watercolour Society. Elise specialises in en plein-air watercolour paintings.

Nature is her biggest inspiration and she is never at a loss for subject matter as New Zealand has so much beautiful coastline.  Boats also feature strongly in her work. Lately she has been focusing on shore birds and being originally from Australia, you will see this influence in her paintings of pelicans. Elise is also drawn to any landscape with dramatic lighting. She wants her art to evoke beauty and bring people joy and peace.

She has just begun developing a style of painting with acrylic which is quite bold, with strong blocks of colour. She has had a lot of positive feedback and is excited to see what comes from it.

You can call in on a Friday to have a chat to the artist on duty.

WEEKLY THURSDAY WORKSHOP @ 10am-1pm

Hello Members,

Just a reminder of our weekly painting sessions every Thursday  from 10.00am – 1.00pm at the old Bucklands Beach Yacht Club hall. (This is not to be confused with the BBYC at Half Moon Bay)

For those of you who are unfamiliar with this venue, you will find it on Marine parade at Bucklands Beach, on the beach side of the road, where the road turns, between little Bucklands Beach, and the main beach. There is a car park and you can also park on the road outside.

We also incorporate still life drawing or painting, pastels, and any other medium of your choice.
“En plein air” weather permitting, as we have awesome views of the estuary to Rangitoto its a good reason to have an outdoor painting session, (or paint from the window) And if you are interested in learning about something or have an idea please let us know and we will try to accommodate you.
You are also free to bring along something you are working on, (you don’t have to participate in any group work) and get inspiration and feedback, or just come along for a chat, and meet fellow artists and exchange ideas.
Tea, coffee, and biscuits are provided.

This group will continue to mid-December before it recesses till the new year.

Margaret Routen
President

Bruce McLaren Retirement Village Art Showcase
Sat 12 & Sun 13 March 2016  10am-4pm

The Art Showcase at Bruce McLaren as stated below was a great show and thoroughly enjoyed by all who came.  It is hopefully the first of many to be held there.  In fine surroundings, and with a relaxed atmosphere, both public and residents wandered through the exhibition taking in the many different and varied styles, mediums and subjects of painted works. With a very comfortable nearby lounge available for a cup of tea or coffee and a slice of cake, many came back again for a second look and finally went home with a treasured work of art.
