Green Gables Cottage is at 66 Cook Street, Howick, and is rented to the group through the Council.
Working Members can have up to two paintings hung per month depending on the wall space at a small cost per painting. There is also a place for non-framed art for three months, and miniature paintings can be displayed for six months for free. Miniatures must be no taller than seven inches. The Hanging Team reserves the right to decide on the final total of paintings. All paintings must be the original and sole work of the artist.
Paintings are changed monthly on the last weekend of the month.
The Cottage is open to the public on Friday and Saturday from 10am to 3pm and Sunday from 10am to 12pm each week. Two members are rostered on duty from 10am – 12.30pm and from 12.30pm – 3pm. Those displaying at the Cottage are expected to put their names down for roster duties.
A commission of 20% is charged on all sales whenever artwork is hung under the name of the Howick Art Group.
Exhibition Room at Green Gables
One room at Green Gables has been made available as a solo exhibition room and is hired each month by an individual artist, or can be shared on agreement, at a charge of $40. That artist is expected to man the cottage on Fridays or organize another member to assist on that day.
Especially during Summer and Autumn, weather permitting, outdoor exhibitions are held regularly on the forecourt of the Green Gables Gallery and up to four times a year on the Hawthorndon Reserve on which the cottage also stands. Look out for the exhibition tents and umbrellas. The flags and signs are always out when the Gallery is open or an exhibition is on. Add some balloons and it all makes for a colourful display.
